Each suite has its own private outdoor space and an outdoor shower — one of those simple African pleasures that many guests remember long after their stay.
You may also meet Mimi and Bowie, our resident cats, who consider themselves part of the welcoming committee.
We are Katrin and Claus. We arrived in South Africa many years ago and never quite managed to leave. What began as a fascination with Cape Town became a life, a home, and eventually Himmelblau.
Today we are proud that our small guesthouse is consistently ranked among Cape Town's best B&Bs. More meaningful to us, however, are the friendships, conversations and returning guests that have become part of our story.

Under the African Sky
It was the first thing that captured our hearts when we arrived in Africa many years ago. The extraordinary blue sky above Cape Town seems larger somehow — stretching from the slopes of Table Mountain to distant horizons, changing constantly with the movement of light, cloud and season.
It is a sky that invites you outdoors. To walk, explore, linger over breakfast, watch a sunset, or simply pause for a moment and appreciate where you are.
For us, Himmelblau became more than a name. It reflects the openness, warmth and sense of possibility that drew us to Cape Town and that we hope every guest experiences during their stay.
The Himmelblau Experience
We wanted to create a small guesthouse that feels relaxed, comfortable and personal rather than formal. A place where guests can enjoy their privacy when they wish, but where conversation and connection are always close at hand.

Our journey to Cape Town was not a straight one.
Originally from Frankfurt, Germany, we spent many years living and working in different parts of the world, including Ukraine and Dubai. Along the way we collected experiences, friendships and perspectives that continue to shape who we are today.
