Our Story
Home is where the heart is.
Our journey to Cape Town was not a straight one.
Originally from Frankfurt, Germany, we spent many years living and working in different parts of the world, including Ukraine and Dubai. Along the way we collected experiences, friendships and perspectives that continue to shape who we are today.
Yet it was South Africa that kept drawing us back.
In 2004 we took a fourteen-month sabbatical and travelled more than 37,000 kilometres through South Africa, Namibia and Botswana in a small Volkswagen City Golf. We camped beneath desert skies, followed dusty roads to remote places and experienced the extraordinary beauty and diversity of Southern Africa first hand.
Somewhere along that journey, Cape Town captured our hearts.
What began as a destination eventually became home.
Today we are deeply connected to our local community and grateful for the opportunity to contribute in our own small ways.
Katrin volunteers regularly with local feeding initiatives that provide meals and support to vulnerable members of the community. For her, the simple act of sharing food is one of the most direct ways to bring dignity, comfort and human connection.
Claus's background in advertising evolved into a passion for conservation, storytelling and art. Over the years he has worked with a variety of conservation organisations, helping raise awareness for wildlife and environmental causes. The plight of orphaned rhinos affected by poaching remains particularly close to his heart and inspired a series of artworks and sculptures displayed throughout Himmelblau.
These interests are part of everyday life in our home and often become part of the conversations we share with guests.
Cape Town continues to inspire us every day. Its beauty is obvious. Its complexity perhaps even more so. Living here has taught us that both belong together.
We still feel fortunate to call this remarkable city home, and we enjoy helping our guests discover the many reasons why we fell in love with it.
